Ambrotype

Introduced in the 1850's, this process creates a positive photographic image on a sheet of glass using the wet plate collodion process.

Viewed by reflected light against a black background.

Clear areas of the glass look black, and the exposed areas appear light and opaque.

Replacement for daguerreotype, each one is unique and a copy can only be reproduced by photographing the original.
